Two in 18:37 with Rain

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

I got in two miles this morning before the monsoon hit. It is hard to believe we are in Texas with all of this rain. When I think of Texas, I think of dry plains, not wet hills. There was still water on the path (concrete) but I was able to get around it this morning. I ran out and back and still ache in my lower legs from the Tuesday run. I am going to try for a longer run this weekend, taking a different path and just running for time.

1.5 to 2 miles this morning

There was a bad storm last night and we ended up with some flogging flooding that interrupted my wun run. I was planning a quickish two mile run, but the measured path had standing water so I improvised and ended up back home in 15:23. I know it was more than one mile, but I can’t claim a full two. I ran in my old shoes by mistake (did I mention that it was early?) and I now know that I know what bad, old, worn out running shoes feel like. The two miles hurt my legs more than the four.

First 4 mile run in Texas

I ran my out and back tonight with only stops for cars on the three roads it crosses. 46 minutes and change. It has been raining a lot and there is a swampy area I run through. Humid as Charlotte for the whole run. I can’t wait for the rainy season to end except that will mean highs in the high 90s low 100s. I am going to have to start running in the mornings.

Once my mileage gets above 20/week I get to get a Schroeder chariot. He is 7 months old, and easily big enough to be able to go on shorter runs in the morning with me. He loves going out in his little stroller and getting to see people and things. One thing that I forgot to post about the 5k was that I overheard a man talking to his son (probably an early teen) about the pace they were going to run. They were shooting for an easy sub 23 minute run. I guess I need to pick it up a bit to be ready for little scooter ro go running with me.

Heather and I are going to join the Y here in Pflugerville and I am going to get together with a group to train for my October/November Marathon. I have to pick one out at some point, but I know that I will be running the Austin one in 2008. Now that we are way settled in our little Texas house with the white picket fence, I have no excuse.
