Missed opportunity

Sunday, July 22nd, 2007

Didn’t run today. Got in late from the Brummer’s. I am going to attemt a morning run, but this Lone Star in my hand makes it less than probable. Met a couple that work with Andy that are both runners. We didn’t talk about it since we spent the whole time talking about our children (Luke is 11 months old and Ollie is 6 months. Schroeder is 4 days from 9 months.), but Eric had a distance runner build.

First 4 mile run in Texas

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

I ran my out and back tonight with only stops for cars on the three roads it crosses. 46 minutes and change. It has been raining a lot and there is a swampy area I run through. Humid as Charlotte for the whole run. I can’t wait for the rainy season to end except that will mean highs in the high 90s low 100s. I am going to have to start running in the mornings.

Once my mileage gets above 20/week I get to get a Schroeder chariot. He is 7 months old, and easily big enough to be able to go on shorter runs in the morning with me. He loves going out in his little stroller and getting to see people and things. One thing that I forgot to post about the 5k was that I overheard a man talking to his son (probably an early teen) about the pace they were going to run. They were shooting for an easy sub 23 minute run. I guess I need to pick it up a bit to be ready for little scooter ro go running with me.

Heather and I are going to join the Y here in Pflugerville and I am going to get together with a group to train for my October/November Marathon. I have to pick one out at some point, but I know that I will be running the Austin one in 2008. Now that we are way settled in our little Texas house with the white picket fence, I have no excuse.

Pflugerville Phun Run

Sunday, May 20th, 2007

I ran the Pflugerville 5k this morning and didn’t puke or pass out. We went down to visit Cindy and Andy in Austin last night and I drank a few beers and ate some vegitarian food (almost totally carb free) and didn’t get to sleep until after 11:00. I have run less than 3 miles total in Texas. I got up early (6:45am) and had a bowl of cerial and a glass of orange juice. I walked the 3 blocks to the starting line at 7:45. The race began at 8:00 and went right by the house! Heather and Schroeder were out in the yard cheering us on. I didn’t know there were hills in Texas, but the race went over some long ones. I walked at the two water stops to get hydrated and just after the 3 mile mark so that I could get a good finish. Heather and Schroeder were there at the finish cheering me in. It was a good run. I finished in under 33:00 by my watch, just over by the clock, and will have to wait to see chip time. They had free beer and pizza for runners (gotta love this town) and I partook of a brew. :-) The youth run ran around our block! :-) Heather said that the winner finished in 16:?? and the next runners in were after 18:00. There were around 400 people running and everything was well coordinated.

On a side note, I believe we are going to join the local Y. Dell has an on site gym, but it is employee only and Heather is going to start taking some classes here in town soon.
